Single Foot Stretch for a Ballerina Arch (Beginner Friendly)

Train Like a Ballerina Guide Yesterday

Description

One of my favourite foot stretches for a beautiful ballerina arch.

With your toes resting on a block or folded towel, braced against a wall so it can't slide away, you sit back slowly to stretch the top of one foot and the front of the ankle. Working one foot at a time lets you control exactly how much load goes into it.

Why it matters for ballet: the point you see on stage needs the instep to lengthen. This puts you into that shape gently, with the support taking some of the effort off the foot.

My advice if you're new to foot stretching: start with a folded towel, not a thick block. Place your toes a little higher, near the bottom of your arch. Then move very, very slowly and breathe the whole way through the 60 seconds. This is a stretch to progress gradually, not one to force.

It's in the 30 Min Foot & Ankle Flexibility Class on our channel.
