Plié and Point: Train Your Feet to Articulate Like a Dancer

Train Like a Ballerina Short 2 days ago

Description

The secret to a beautiful point? It goes through demi-pointe.

Lying on your back with the legs turned out, you bend into a plié, then straighten through demi-pointe to a full point, then back through flex to plié. Simple, but it trains the foot to articulate in stages rather than snapping straight from flexed to pointed.

That's the ballet part. A tendu, a développé and a rise all move through the foot in sequence: heel lifts, ball of the foot, then the toes. Dancers who skip demi-pointe tend to look as if their feet are pointing from the toes alone. Lying down takes your body weight off, so you can feel each stage properly.

Notice the transition through demi-pointe each time. That's where most people rush.

It's in the 30 Min Foot & Ankle Flexibility Class on our channel.
