Description
In Avatar Seven Havens, Jae just arrested Captain Karthik, blamed HIM for getting involved with the White Lotus, and walked away with a promotion, but after everything he’s done to protect Nisha and Pavi, are we really watching him switch sides, or is he trying to make Kayoko THINK that’s what happened? By this point Karthik has already exposed his allegiance to the White Lotus and fought members of his own brigade so Nisha could escape, leaving him exhausted in front of the chancellor, as Jae steps forward and tells his commander he’s under arrest. Karthik looks surprised, and considering this is the same kid who’s been helping him keep the girls safe, you can understand WHY, but Jae keeps going once Kayoko starts demanding answers. He claims Karthik used his loyalty to the brigade against him, pulling him into the White Lotus before he realized how damaging all the deception had become, and now he’s declaring that his loyalty belongs to ELLORA. So if you’re Kayoko, this sounds like exactly what you’d want to hear, because you’ve just found out that somebody you trusted was hiding the Avatar, and here’s his younger subordinate saying he got manipulated too. She even acknowledges how convincing Karthik can be, which lets Jae put the blame on somebody she ALREADY feels betrayed by, while presenting himself as someone who’s finally come back to the right side. And it works, because she forgives him and starts calling him COMMANDER, putting him in a position to help hunt down the people he was protecting just moments earlier. But watch what that actually gives him access to, because Kayoko wants the brigade compound searched, Nisha’s friends and family tracked down, and anybody who knows something questioned, as she puts Datu on the search and expects Jae to guide him toward the other dissenters. If Jae is lying to her, he’s just become somebody who could hear those orders before they reach the people being hunted, which might give him a chance to interfere or get a warning out, but he’d have to do it with Datu right there watching.
