Description
Tight calves and Achilles? Check both sides.
This moves the back of the ankle through its range, one leg at a time. Bring your knee forward over your toes through a demi-plié, keeping it in parallel, then come back. You'll feel it in the back of the ankle and the toes.
Here's the bit people miss: it often feels completely different on each side. On one side I feel it strongly in the back of my ankle; on the other, hardly at all. That's useful information, because ballet lands on one leg constantly. Temps levés, sissonnes and the landing of a grand jeté all ask one ankle to absorb your whole body in a plié.
Keep the knee tracking straight over the toes rather than rolling in. Breathe in as you come back and out as you go forward. Move around a little to find where you feel it most.
It's in the 30 Min Foot & Ankle Flexibility Class on our channel.
