Video Transcript:
Step 1. Open iMovie on your Mac, open the project with the video you want to slow down, and then click the clip in the timeline to select it. A yellow border appears around the clip.
Step 2. Click the “Speed” icon, which looks like a speedometer, in the toolbar above the viewer. Speed options appear below the toolbar.
Step 3. Click the drop-down menu next to Speed, and then click “Slow.” A turtle icon appears on the clip in your timeline to show it has been slowed down.
Step 4. Click “10%,” “25%,” or “50%” to the right of the Speed menu to pick how much you want to slow the clip down. The lower the percentage, the slower your video plays, and the longer the clip gets in your timeline.
Step 5. If you want a speed that isn’t one of these presets, click the Speed drop-down menu again, and then click “Custom.”
Step 6. Type the percentage you want in the box next to the Custom menu, and then press “Return” on your keyboard. In this example, I’ll set the speed to 30 percent. Your clip is now slowed down to that speed.
If your clip has audio, you may want to check the box next to “Preserve Pitch” so voices and sounds don’t get deep and distorted when the clip is slowed down. And if you only want to slow down part of a clip, hold down the “R” key and drag across the section you want to change in the timeline, and then follow the same steps. If you change your mind, just click “Reset” on the right side of the speed options to put the clip back to its normal speed.
