Step 1. Press the "Windows" and "I" keys at the same time. The Settings window opens to the Home screen.
Step 2. Click "Personalization" in the menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Scroll down the Personalization screen, and then click "Taskbar."
Step 4. Scroll down to the Taskbar behaviors section.
Step 5. If you want to shrink the entire taskbar along with its app icons, click the drop-down menu next to Taskbar size, and then click "Small." Your whole taskbar immediately becomes smaller.
Step 6. If you'd rather keep the taskbar at its regular size and only shrink the app icons, set Taskbar size back to "Default," and then scroll down to Show Smaller App Icons. By default, this option is set to "When taskbar is full."
Step 7. Click the drop-down menu next to Show Smaller App Icons, and then click "Always." Your taskbar app icons will now appear smaller all the time, no matter how many apps you have pinned.
