Video Transcript:
Step 1. Open a new or existing Microsoft Word document.

Step 2. Make sure you are on the Home tab in the top menu ribbon.

Step 3. Look for the Font section on the ribbon, and click the small dialog box launcher icon in the bottom right corner of that section. This icon looks like a tiny arrow pointing diagonally down. If you are on a Mac, you can also press Command + D to open this menu.

Step 4. A Font dialog box will pop up on your screen. Use the menus under the Font, Font Style, and Size sections to choose exactly how you want your default text to look. You can see a live preview of your choice at the bottom of the window.

Step 5. Once you are happy with your settings, click the Set As Default button located in the bottom left corner of the window.

Step 6. Word will open a small prompt asking if you want to set this default for this document only, or for all documents based on the Normal template. Select the button next to All documents based on the Normal template, and then click OK.

Step 7. Click OK on the main Font dialog box to close it out. From this point forward, every single new document you open will automatically start with your custom font settings.

If you ever want to change the default font for your headings and titles at the same time, you can do that easily using Word Styles. On the Home tab, look at the Styles gallery and right-click the Heading 1 style box, then select Modify. In the window that appears, change the font settings to your preferred style, select the radio button at the bottom that says New documents based on this template, and click OK. This ensures both your body text and headings match perfectly every time you start fresh.
