Video Transcript: If Apple CarPlay keeps freezing, failing to connect wirelessly, or displaying a black screen in your Ford truck or SUV, performing a soft reset on your Ford SYNC system will quickly restart CarPlay without deleting any of your saved settings or paired devices.
Here is how to reboot Apple CarPlay in a Ford by performing a SYNC module reset.
Step 1. Make sure your vehicle is turned on and parked in a safe location.
Step 2. Locate the physical audio controls on your dashboard or center console.
Step 3. Press and hold the audio system Power button and the Seek Right button at the same time. On older SYNC models without a dedicated power button, press and hold the Volume knob and Seek Right button together instead.
Step 4. Continue holding both buttons for about five to ten seconds until the main infotainment display turns completely black.
Step 5. Release both buttons. After a few seconds, the screen will display the Ford boot logo as the system reboots and restores your wireless or wired Apple CarPlay connection.
If a soft reboot does not resolve your connectivity issues, you can also restart Apple CarPlay by cycling the connection on your iPhone. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap General, select CarPlay, select your Ford vehicle, tap "Forget This Car" and then tap "Forget" when asked if you're sure. After removing the connection, disconnect your USB cable or turn off Bluetooth, turn it back on, and go through the initial CarPlay setup prompt on your Ford display. If issues persist across multiple drives, performing a Master Reset through the SYNC Settings menu under General will completely reset the system back to factory defaults, though you will need to re-pair your phone afterward.
