When seventh arpeggios are played over triads (or vice versa), the result is called, “polychordal superimposition.” Perhaps you’ve never heard of it, and if not then this lesson will be excellent.
When applied over diatonic chords, Polychordal Superimposition can yield rich, complex "color tones," (upper extensions like 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths).
Instead of clashing, the color notes merge to create a sophisticated, expanded chord sound that is common in jazz, fusion, and advanced pop/rock.
This lesson explores how to start using Polychordal Superimposition over a chord riff in “G” Major. Everything from arpeggio patterns on the neck to a complete 8-bar exercise will be covered.
