When it comes to building the foundation of your musical vocabulary studying licks around the key of “D” major will bridge the gap between mechanical scale practice and actual musicality.
Approximately 12% of hit songs are written in D Major, making it the second most popular key for music right behind C Major, (which accounts for about 15% of songs).
By building your foundational vocabulary in the key of “D” it connects your fretting hand to specific target tones, and creates seamless, melodic transitions between chord changes.
In this lesson we will focus on licks played across the "Axis" progression (often called the "four-chord pop" progression). The examples will show you everything you need to cover this harmony.
