Description
Something went seriously wrong on the Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad.
I arrived at Amberg-Wausaukee Road to find ELS 1221 and 1224 sitting completely idle, with the crew already there for over an hour. A major breakdown or mystery issue forced them to make a tough choice: they tied down and abandoned their entire train miles away from Beecher Yard or Pembine.
They manage to start just one locomotive, leaving the freight behind while ELS 1224 slowly pushes the dead weight north. They bypassed Beecher, skipped Pembine, rolled through Iron Mountain, and finally limped all the way back to the Channing shops. What exactly happened out there? Stay tuned...
Bonus clip: Keep an eye out for a very surprised trespasser walking down the tracks at County O in northern Wisconsin as the train approached!
