A rare vintage locomotive and a sudden wall of black smoke! 🚂💨
In this video, I catch the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (ELS) 600 FP7A—paired with ELS 400 GP38—powering a southbound freight train through Michigan and Wisconsin.
We started tracking them near the Granite Bluff curve crossing alongside a heavy chase pack of railfans. I safely set up cones on the US 2 highway bridge to get an incredible shot of this train roaring up the grade towards the Iron Mountain viaduct!
⚠️ THE TWIST: Near Kingsford, MI, a massive column of heavy black smoke began rising rapidly from the Alter Metal scrap yard. Watch as the vintage F-Unit charges right past the growing smoke cloud, making for an incredibly dramatic scene.
From there, we chased them across County O on dry tracks, followed them into Pembine for some switching action, and watched them slide the train onto the CN interchange track before heading back to the Beecher Woodyard.
