Description
The end of an era for these iconic vintage blue boxcars. Watch as Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (ELS) 1224 takes a fleet of historic blue box cars on their absolute final journey to the scrap yard.
After sitting abandoned on the side track behind the Ace Hardware in Kingsford, MI for years, their fate has finally been sealed. While I originally thought they were heading back to Channing, the final destination tells a different story: Alter Metal.
In this video, we chase the ELS 1224 through Pembine (WI), Beecher, East Kingsford as they switch out the cars and prepare them for their final destination. Along the way, we catch a few mysteries—including evidence of a past fire inside one of the cars and an unknown rider in the conductor's seat.
If these cars are meeting their end at the scrapyard, what does this mean for the rest of the vintage blue box cars currently sitting in Channing?
