Description
The complete Sculpzilla fly-tying tutorial is now live!
We're continuing our sculpin series with an articulated streamer designed to have plenty of movement in the water.
We start by tying the rear hook with a rabbit-strip tail and dubbed body. Then we connect it to the front section using heavy backing.
The front section gets an X-Eyed Cone and lead-free wire for weight, followed by a dubbed body and rabbit strip pulled over the top.
One important detail is leaving a little slack in that rabbit strip so the backing carries the pressure between the two sections when fighting a fish.
We'll finish the fly with a hackle collar, marabou, and a couple of feathers for pectoral fins. Then we secure the cone, add the eyes, and remove the point and bend from the front hook.
The result is an articulated sculpin imitation with plenty of movement from the rabbit, marabou, and independent rear section.
It's more involved than our previous two sculpin patterns, but still a very manageable fly to tie.
