Description
I recently got my hands on Risen Fly's new M Four Nineteen fly rod, and I wanted to get it out on the water to see how it fishes!
So come along with me for a casual day of fly fishing as I try out this new 8'6" 4-weight rod, make a few casts, catch some fish, and share my first impressions along the way.
One of the things that makes this rod interesting is its moderate action. Unlike some of the stiffer, fast-action rods on the market, the M14 has a softer, more relaxed casting feel. You can really feel the rod loading and unloading, which encourages you to slow down and pay attention to your casting timing.
That softer action can take a little getting used to, but I think it can also help improve your casting technique and make for some really nice, delicate presentations, especially when fishing dry flies.
I also really like the craftsmanship. The unique cork grip is incredibly soft, and the wood insert in the reel seat gives the rod a beautiful, classic appearance.
Throughout the trip, I share my thoughts on how the rod casts, how it feels when fighting fish, and what I like about this style of fly rod.
Nothing too fancy today, just a relaxing day on the water trying out some new gear and catching a few fish! Although I did catch one really nice Rio Cichlid!
