How I Fish the Sculpzilla

McFly Angler Guide 13 days ago

Description

The Sculpzilla is an articulated sculpin streamer that really lends itself well to fishing on the swing.

One of my favorite ways to fish it is to cast across the current and allow the fly to swing through the water, somewhat like you would with a Spey-style streamer presentation.

As the current catches the fly, the articulated rear section moves independently while the rabbit, hackle, and marabou add even more movement.

That's one of the things I like most about this pattern. You can let the current do much of the work rather than constantly stripping the fly back.

It's a presentation you can try in faster current or through slower pools, adjusting your approach to the water you're fishing.

And that completes our third week of the sculpin series!

So far we've tied the Skulpin Bunny, Slump Buster, and Sculpzilla.

Next week we're finishing the series with something completely different—the Muddler Minnow.

Believe it or not, the Muddler Minnow was originally designed as a sculpin imitation. And unlike the heavily weighted patterns we've covered so far, it gives us a much lighter presentation built around a distinctive deer-hair head.
