About this video: This video shows you how to add proximity voice chat to a Minecraft server using Simple Voice Chat. We install and configure it on a PaperMC server, get the voice chat port set correctly, and cover what you need to do if you are hosting the server yourself. Your players will then be able to talk in-game based on how close they are to each other.

First things first, you will need to download the Simple Voice Chat plugin for the Minecraft version your server is running. Once it has downloaded, stop your server and add the Simple Voice Chat file to the “plugins” folder. Start the server again, and the plugin will generate the files we need to configure it.

From there, stop the server and open the Simple Voice Chat configuration folder inside your plugins folder. Open the voicechat-server.properties file and find the “port” setting. Change this to the voice chat port assigned to your server. The voice chat port is separate from the regular port players use to join your Minecraft server, so make sure you are entering the correct one.

If you are using a Minecraft server hosting provider, you may need to create or assign an additional port through your server panel before adding it to the configuration file. However, if you are hosting the server yourself, you will need to open and forward the voice chat port through your router and firewall. Simple Voice Chat uses UDP, so the port must be opened using the UDP protocol for players to connect properly.

The process is very similar on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge servers. Instead of installing the plugin, you will install the Simple Voice Chat mod into your server’s “mods” folder. The configuration file will also be located in a different place, typically inside the server’s “config” folder. You will still change the voice port and make sure it is open or assigned correctly.

Finally, everyone who wants to use voice chat will need the Simple Voice Chat mod installed on their own computer. Once the server and client are both configured, players can join and start using proximity voice chat in Minecraft.

With that, you now know how to add voice chat to a Minecraft server. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
