About this video: Choosing between Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge can be confusing, but the best Minecraft mod loader is always the one that supports the mods you actually want to play. In this video, we compare all three mod loaders, explain where each one makes sense, and help you decide which option you should use for your next modded Minecraft installation.
First things first, make a list of the mods you want to install and check which mod loaders they support. Mods made for Fabric will not automatically work with Forge or NeoForge, and the same is true in the other direction. If one mod loader supports nearly everything you want while another only supports a few of your mods, the decision has already been made for you.
It is also worth noting that you do not need to choose a mod loader when playing an existing modpack. The modpack developer has already selected the loader, Minecraft version, mods, and dependencies that the pack requires. Just install the modpack through an app like CurseForge or Modrinth and play it using the included configuration.
Forge is the oldest of the three major mod loaders and has a massive library of older Minecraft mods. If you are playing an older modpack or want to use a classic mod that was only released for Forge, it may still be your best option. However, Forge has been losing support from many mod developers on newer Minecraft versions.
NeoForge originally started as a fork of Forge created by developers from the Forge project. Since then, it has become its own separate mod loader and has replaced Forge for many modern mods and modpacks. Forge and NeoForge mods are not interchang
Finally, we have Fabric. Fabric is a lightweight mod loader with the largest selection of modern Minecraft mods, including many popular performance and quality-of-life options. Unless a specific mod requires Forge or NeoForge, Fabric is what we recommend for most players who are creating their own custom mod setup.
With that, you now know the differences between Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge and which Minecraft mod loader you should pick. Which mod loader are you using, and what mods made you choose it? Let us know in the comments.
