White and Black Americans have the same number of children on average. Although Black Americans have long been stereotyped (often negatively) in the past as having a lot of children per family on average and this was somewhat accurate for the time for most of the 20th century, the situation is markedly different today. For the past generation, Blacks and Whites in America have had nearly identical TFR per woman and there are many factors that have contributed to this, including a much higher rate of pregnancy termination for Black mothers (around 2-3x higher than the average woman in the country). Although Black mothers may have their first child earlier on average than other groups, a steep drop-off in fertility when compared to other groups balances this out. Thanks for watching
