Lanzarote's Rare Blossom: Caldera de Gaida - Monte Guardilama - Tinasoria - Mesa

Description

This long video is worth following, as it takes you on a magnificent journey through a beautiful chain of volcanoes in central Lanzarote during the peak of the rare blossom of 2026. The route begins in Mácher and climbs steadily toward La Asomada. The day is slightly hazy, yet the soft light only enhances the colourful carpets spread across the landscape.

The highlight of the trip is an east‑to‑west ridge hike, starting at Caldera de Gaida (565 m), continuing to Monte Guardilama (603 m), and finishing at Tinasoria (506 m). From these summits, you can admire extraordinary views over Lanzarote’s famous zocos—the small, semi‑circular pits dug into the black volcanic lapilli (picón) where farmers plant single vines. These pits capture moisture, shield the plants from the wind, and are often bordered by the iconic crescent‑shaped stone walls that offer additional protection.

Crossing between Montaña Mojón and Montaña Norte, the path leads to Uga. From there, a final ascent takes us to the Mesa hill, where sweeping views open toward the Timanfaya volcanoes.

Winter 2026 brought unusually heavy rainfall to Lanzarote, transforming the island in a way rarely seen. By February, vast stretches of its typically harsh, desert‑like terrain had turned vibrant green, dotted with yellows and purples from the seasonal bloom.

The footage on this video was taken on February 16, 2026.
