Description
Nahal Lavan, the Hebrew translation of Wadi al‑Abyad, drains an area of about 330 square kilometers in the northern Negev.
Its tributaries originate in the Negev Mountain, and here it carves its way through the Shunra and Agur sands. The sight of the flowing water against the backdrop of dunes and sandstone walls is truly unique.
Further downstream, near the Egyptian border, there is a reservoir that collects the floodwaters of Nahal Lavan and Nahal Nitzana. The reservoir is currently being deepened, and in the meantime the water continues past the border, seeping into the sands of Sinai.
On the night of December 17th, 2025, significant rainfall fell in the watershed, resulting in a substantial flow in the stream.
In this video, we observe and walk along the stream as it crosses the sandy region of Nitzana.
נחל לבן, התרגום מערבית של "ואדי אלאביץ'", מנקז שטח של כשלוש מאות ושלושים קילומטרים רבועים בנגב הצפוני. יובליו בהר הנגב, וכאן הוא מפלס דרכו בחולות שונרה ועגור. מראה הזרימה על רקע הדיונות וקירות אבן החול, הוא מאד מיוחד. במורד הנחל על גבול מצרים יש מאגר הקולט את מי השיטפונות של נחל לבן ונחל ניצנה. המאגר בתהליכי העמקה כעת, ובינתיים המים זורמים אל מעבר לגבול, ומחלחלים בחולות סיני.
בליל ה-17 בדצמבר 2025 ירדו גשמים משמעותיים באגן הניקוז של הנחל, שהביאו לזרימה משמעותית בו. בסרטון זה נצפה ונלך לאורך הנחל בעודו חוצה את אזור החולות בפתחת ניצנה.
