Description
Kan was 7 years old when he fled South Sudan and arrived at Kule refugee camp in Ethiopia. That was 2014. Twelve years later, Kan is still there.
He dreams of becoming a doctor, but drastic cuts in humanitarian funding have disrupted education in the camp. On the day our team visited his school, there were no teachers.
Kan's story is one of an entire generation who’ve grown up in a refugee camp, with fewer resources and no clear path forward. Despite all the hardships, young people in Kule find ways to cope and have fun: playing football, gathering with friends, holding on to moments of normalcy. But resilience alone cannot replace the opportunities that continue to shrink.
MSF teams have been providing much-needed health care in Kule camp since 2014 — the same year Kan arrived.
