VIDEO 3 – Adding Undertones, Veining & Highlights | Comprehensive Silicone Doll Painting Course
Now we're really starting to bring our silicone baby to life!
In this third video of my Comprehensive Silicone Doll Painting Course, we're going to start building up those lovely subtle undertones, delicate veins and gentle highlights that give our silicone babies their wonderfully realistic skin tones.
We'll be mixing some beautiful soft blues, greens and purples, and I'll show you how I use these colours to create depth and variation in the skin. We'll look at where to apply them, how to blend them so they don't look too obvious, and how to add those tiny little veins that you can just see beneath a baby's skin.
We'll also be looking at how light and shadow work together, adding a little warmth to the fleshy areas and cooler tones to the natural shadows and creases.
And, because this is real life in my studio, things don't always go quite according to plan! I manage to get a rather lovely big drip of paint on my baby's chest! 😂 But don't worry, I'll show you how I deal with it, because learning how to correct little accidents is all part of becoming a confident silicone doll artist.
As always, remember that there is no single right way to paint your silicone baby. I'm sharing the techniques I've developed over many years, but I really want you to feel confident experimenting, developing your own style and, most importantly, enjoying the process.
So grab your brushes, get yourself a cuppa, and let's add a little more magic to our silicone babies!
Happy painting!
Carolyn xx
PLEASE NOTE: There are no real babies or children in this video. All babies shown are handmade silicone dolls.
