Can you model this mechanical component in Onshape from a 2D engineering drawing?
Onshape CAD Challenge 1.15 — a challenging exercise involving 2D orthographic views, sketching, multiple extrusions, tangency, arcs, holes and careful transfer of dimensions into a 3D CAD model.

In this challenge, we work through the Front View, Top View, Right Side View and Rear View and progressively build the complete model in Onshape.

The interesting part is that you cannot rely on just one view. You have to constantly switch between the different projections and understand how the dimensions and features relate to one another.

🔧 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

1️⃣ How to interpret multiple orthographic views for 3D modelling
2️⃣ How to create the initial profile using the Front Plane
3️⃣ How to apply dimensions and angular constraints
4️⃣ How to create concentric circles and tangential geometry
5️⃣ How to use Extrude to build different portions of the model
6️⃣ How to create holes and circular features
7️⃣ How to use arcs and fillets while creating the profile
8️⃣ How to refer back to different views while modelling
9️⃣ How to check the final model using the Mass Properties / Volume tool

📐 ONSHAPE CAD CHALLENGE SERIES

This series is designed to help engineering students develop the thought process required for CAD modelling, rather than simply following a step-by-step tutorial.

Try creating the model yourself before watching the complete solution.

Even if you make mistakes — that's part of learning CAD. Keep practising, identify your mistakes, and improve your modelling process.

If you face any difficulty while creating this model, feel free to write your questions in the comments section.

👍 If you found this video useful, do share it with your friends and fellow engineering students.
