Can you model this bracket in Onshape from a 2D engineering drawing?

In CAD Challenge 1.12, we will take the front, top and right-side views of the component and gradually build the complete 3D model in Onshape.

The model is created feature by feature — starting with the base plate, creating the hole, adding the vertical wall, and finally removing the triangular section.

This exercise is particularly useful for improving engineering drawing interpretation and understanding how 2D dimensions are translated into the correct sketch planes in 3D CAD.

🔧 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

✅ Reading front, top and right-side views
✅ Selecting the correct sketch plane
✅ Creating a 125 × 75 mm base
✅ Using Extrude to create the base plate
✅ Creating and positioning a Ø20 mm hole
✅ Using dimensions to accurately locate sketch geometry
✅ Creating the vertical wall
✅ Creating the triangular profile
✅ Using Through All for material removal
✅ Checking the final model using the Measure tool
✅ Verifying the final volume

📐 FINAL VOLUME:
17,723 mm³

🎯 WHO IS THIS VIDEO FOR?

• Engineering students
• Mechanical engineering students
• CAD beginners
• Onshape users
• Engineering drawing students
• Anyone learning 3D CAD modelling

The objective is not simply to follow the commands. The goal is to understand how an engineering drawing is interpreted and converted into a 3D CAD model.

💡 Before watching the complete solution, try modelling the part yourself from the drawing.
