Month 2-4 post-ACL is the hardest. Here's how to push through when motivation fades. Stay locked in

Beware of the MENTAL WALL Month 2-4 after ACL surgery

The adrenaline from surgery is gone.
You're now deep in rehab.
Progress feels much SLOWER now.
The knee still aches sometimes, and it can sometimes feel like it'll never feel better.

This is where most people start to mentally check out.
They start question their body more.
They question their therapist/trainer/doctor.
They start comparing their progress to others they see...

But here's what the research shows...

Your functional outcomes at 2 months directly predict your results at 1+ years post-op (Journal of Athletic Training, 2015).

Meaning?
How you show up RIGHT NOW determines your future.

So when you hit that wall, here's how to lock in:

✅STOP CHASING PAIN-FREE

Some discomfort is normal. Your nervous system is relearning.
Learn the difference between "good pain" (effort, fatigue) and "bad pain" (sharp, swelling that won't quit).
Communicate with your rehab team if you're not sure!

✅TRACK NUMBERS, NOT FEELINGS

Feelings lie. Data doesn't....
Measure ROM, track strength numbers, and remember how far you've come from week 1 after surgery...

I've had athletes at month 5, have their post-op knee be STRONGER than their non-surgical knee at baseline...and STILL BE FRUSTRATED with their progress!

But when you have real data, you can quickly reframe this conversation into the SUCCESS the athlete is having, that isn't measured by a pain scale...

✅CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL

Healing takes time.
You can't control biology...but you can influence it!
You CAN control sleep, nutrition, hydration, stress.
These directly impact inflammation and recovery.

✅GET YOUR TEAM

This isn't a solo mission. You need a PT/AT who gets it...People who know their stuff, and how to push you....Don't suffer in silence.

Where you start → Where you finish.
You got this. 💪

If you need help, comment STRATEGY and book a call with my team...I also have a really cool new resource specifically for ACL rehab that I think will be HUGE for many athletes with limited specialized resources!

Stay tuned!
