Having Surgery? You should know this going in... #shorts

Description

Nobody warned you about Night 2.

Night 1 post-op isn't that bad.
You still have surgical meds on board.
Sometimes a nerve block that hasn't worn off yet.
You think: "this isn't so bad."

Night 2 is where it finds you.
The block is gone. The loading dose has worn off.
Swelling has peaked. Compression is tighter.
That's the worst night for most people.

Here's what I prep my athlete and clients with so they survive the first few nights post op.

1️⃣. Loosen the wrap proximally...if you're able to safely, loosening from the top of the wrap down reduces the pressure that builds overnight.

2️⃣. Elevate the foot of the bed...not just your leg.
Pillows shift. You'll wake up fighting them.
Put a dresser drawer under the foot of your mattress instead.
You stay elevated the whole night. Game changer.

3️⃣. Pre-bed lymphatic drainage.
Manual massage toward the groin.
A percussion gun on the surrounding tissue.
Or NMES pumping to move fluid actively.
Do one of these for 10–15 minutes before you try to sleep.

Here's the timeline most people don't get told...
🔴 Night 1 — manageable. Surgical meds still working.
🔴 Night 2 — worst night. Expect it. Prepare for it.
🟡 Night 3 — noticeably better. Usually 50% easier.
🟢 Night 4 — most people turn the corner. Less meds. More sleep.

Knowing this doesn't make Night 2 painless.
But it makes it more survivable...because you know it's the peak, not the pattern.

Save this before surgery. Send it to someone who just had theirs.
