Hinase, Aoba and Zabon feature in the pond scene. It costs money to feed capybaras so as the years have gone by the capybaras in this herd have been getting less and less to eat. They do look very cute as they beg for food but it's not good animal welfare that they cannot graze when ever they are hungry. Some of the capybaras have solved this problem by stealing bamboo from the bamboo stall, or by opening the gate to escape and eat the nutritious vegetation which grows right outside the enclosure. At Sodegaura zoo the capybaras have nutritious food which is available to them to eat all day – huge branches of bamboo, nutritious wild grasses, cabbage and carrots and pellets. For most of the year vegetables are grown at the zoo and are freshly picked, as is the bamboo and wild grasses.
