Description
Most of MH awareness occurs in May, but World Mental Health Day was October 10, and although I am a little late, I still wanted to create a painting for it! Not only am I an artist, I am also a pharmacist and most of my professional career has involved working with patients with serious mental illness. Mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging compassion for the people around us are all very important to me.
Painting also became an important creative outlet for me years ago, and I think art can be such a great form of self-care. For this painting, I decided to try TWO deconstructed blooms on a square canvas, something I had never done before. I used predominantly greens for mental health awareness, along with lime green, turquoise green, light blue, and gold.
And y'all... this was WAY harder than I thought it was going to be.
There were so many things that went "wrong" - some that were even off camera that you didn't see (even my mic stopped working) but I kept pushing on and kept going. That made the finished painting feel even more fitting. The two blooms started reminding me of neurons and their connections, and everything became very abstract and interconnected.
Most importantly, I hope we can all remember to have a little compassion for the people around us. If you are struggling, please reach out for the support and professional care that is right for you. Hope you enjoy the video! Thank you so much for watching and painting along with me.
