Snohomish County closes park areas as tree diseases create falling hazards

KOMO News Guide Today

Description

Snohomish County has partially closed Paradise Valley Conservation Area in Woodinville after a forest health assessment found hundreds of Douglas firs across 64 acres affected by advanced laminated root rot, a fungal disease that damages roots and can cause trees to fall and die.

The county plans to remove the affected firs over the next year and a half and sell the logs.

Sharon Walker of Snohomish County Parks and Recreation said the proceeds will help pay for the work and replanting.

“We’re excited because we have this opportunity to replant the area with more diversity,” Walker said.
