Description
Some welcome relief for Seattle commuters as all northbound lanes of Interstate 5 across the Ship Canal Bridge reopened ahead of schedule Monday, and the express lanes have returned to normal operations.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said crews completed the latest phase of the Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project early, ending about 16 weeks of lane reductions between Interstate 90 and Northeast 45th Street.
The reopening also means drivers heading southbound can once again use the I-5 express lanes during the morning commute. The lanes have returned to their regular schedule, operating southbound in the morning and northbound later in the day.
However, the break from construction will only last a few months.
