Description
Only one seat on the Seattle City Council is up for election this year, and the winner will represent several north Seattle neighborhoods that have long dealt with gun violence and other crime.
Nilu Jenks and Julie Kang are the two candidates running for the District 5 seat. The winner of this race will only hold office for one year to fill the remainder of former Councilmember Cathy Moore's term, who resigned in 2025 due to health reasons.
The seat will be up for reelection again in 2027 for a full, four-year term.
Voters who talked with KOMO News cited gun violence and sex trafficking as the main areas they hope a new councilmember will bring change in.
