Local election leaders urge voters to use drop boxes instead of mail

KOMO News Guide Today

Description

Washington election leaders are strongly encouraging people to use drop boxes instead of putting ballots in the traditional mail in the hours before the first votes are tallied.

That’s because the August primary showed that the United States Postal Service failed to deliver dozens of ballots until after the vote was certified, even though they were postmarked on or before Election Day.

“I've lost faith in the United States Postal Service when it comes to delivering election mail on time,” said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall.

She says 71 ballots were postmarked correctly but arrived weeks later.
