Description
Meet Lucy, a 4-month-old Chocolate Lab, she is an awesome puppy with great owners, the only problems are that her owners are very busy and they don't have much in the way of puppy raising experience.
Busy people still want the American dream: a nice house, a nice neighborhood, and a well mannered dog that is a joy to be around. Where we run into trouble is depending on old fashioned methods to teach children how to train and interact with puppies.
Modern children are not ready to be family disciplinarians. Puppies are not ready to be managed like a chore list. What does work is turning everyday life into a series of fun activities and puzzles. The family shows the puppy how neighborhood life actually works. The puppy practices solving those puzzles. The child practices leading the puppy through games and shared work instead of lectures and corrections.
The better the child and the puppy get at solving those puzzles together, the clearer the lifestyle expectations become. You end up with a child who learns to lead and a puppy who learns to follow — built on a history of mutually beneficial behavior, not power struggles.
