Description
Even with solid training advice, a lot of dogs still act up. The missing piece usually isn’t more information—it’s experience managing real energy at the right developmental stage.
In this video I start with a wire-haired pointing griffon puppy, a golden, a fox red lab, a chocolate lab, and a couple of black labs (plus two older black lab mentor dogs). We’ve already been out training in the rain, but instead of heading straight inside I take them on a hike so you can see the actual energy level young dogs bring when they’re allowed to move freely.
Watch the young dogs and compare it to what a normal leash walk does with your dog’s energy. Leash walks rarely allocate enough of a young dog’s drive, so the leftover energy gets displaced into the misbehavior you see at home. The older mentor dogs give a clear contrast in energy and pace.
Don’t rush them through the high-energy years. You’ll miss it when they’re older.
Drop your thoughts or questions in the comments—especially how your young dog’s energy compares on leash vs. off.
