About this video: Backing up your Steam games makes it much easier to move to a new PC, reinstall a game, or protect your game data. In this video, we show you how Steam Cloud works, how to create a manual backup of a Steam game, and how to restore that backup through Steam.

First things first, many of your games are probably already using Steam Cloud. You can open the Steam Remote Storage overview linked in the description above to see which games have data stored in the cloud. Even if you have uninstalled a game, its saved data may still be available here. Steam automatically syncs supported games when you close them and loads that data when you play again.

You can control Steam Cloud for each game individually. Right-click the game in your Steam Library, select “Properties”, and find the Steam Cloud section. From there, you can turn cloud synchronization on or off for that specific game.

If you want to create a manual backup, right-click the game, select “Properties”, and open the “Installed Files” tab. Click “Backup Game Files”, choose where you want Steam to store the backup, and start the process. Once it finishes, you will have a local backup that can be moved to another drive or PC.

To restore the game, open the “Steam” menu and select “Restore Game Backup”. Navigate to the folder containing your backup, select it, and continue through the installation process. Steam will then use the backup to restore the game. We also show you how to display and download individual files stored through Steam Remote Storage.

With that, you now know how to back up and restore Steam games. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments. Otherwise, be sure to give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if we helped you out. Thanks in advance!
