About this video: If you want Java Edition players on PC to play with Bedrock Edition players on Xbox, PS5, Switch, mobile, and Windows, this video shows you how to add cross-play to your Minecraft server. We set everything up using Geyser and Floodgate on a PaperMC server, configure the correct Bedrock port, and show you how Bedrock players can join.

First things first, you will need a Paper server already set up. Geyser is available for other platforms, including Fabric and NeoForge, but we generally recommend Paper when possible. Mods can cause compatibility problems for Bedrock players, while plugins and other Paper server features are more likely to work for everyone.

To get started, download the correct Geyser and Floodgate jar files for your server platform. Geyser allows Bedrock players to connect to your Java server, while Floodgate lets them join without forcing you to disable online mode. There are links to both downloads in the description above.

From there, place both jar files in your server’s plugins folder and start the server. This generates the files you need to configure Geyser. On a Paper server, open the plugins folder, go into the Geyser-Spigot folder, and open config.yml using a text editor such as Notepad.

If you use a Minecraft hosting provider, you may need to change the Bedrock port in config.yml. Your provider may give you a specific port to use, and additional instructions may be available on Geyser’s Supported Hosting Providers page. After changing the port, save the file and restart your server.

When hosting the server yourself, people outside your local network cannot connect until you port forward the Bedrock port. By default, this is port 19132 using the UDP protocol. There is a complete port-forwarding guide in the description above with instructions that work for most routers.

Finally, Java and Bedrock players may use different connection information. Java players connect using your normal Java server address and port. Bedrock players enter the Bedrock server address along with the port configured for Geyser. On Bedrock for Windows or mobile, you can add this from the Servers menu. Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch players can use Bedrock Connect on a phone to access the server through their console.

With that, you now know how to add Java and Bedrock cross-play to a Minecraft server. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments. Otherwise, give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Thanks in advance!
