Why do Wynton Kelly’s voicings sound so big?
In this lesson, we analyze the final turnaround of Autumn Leaves and look at the chord voicings Wynton Kelly uses to create that rich, full jazz piano sound.
Instead of treating these voicings as shapes to memorize, we break down the actual construction: guide tones, altered tensions, octave-and-fifth melody harmonization, upper structures, and the way partials reinforce the notes inside the voicing.
