Over 10,000 years ago, a young woman or man with a toddler on their hip—took a hurried journey north across what is now New Mexico's White Sands National Park.
As the traveler's bare feet skidded on the dirt, it's likely rain might have hit their face, but before continuing, they stopped to place the toddler on the ground for a short while.
However, when the traveler returned a few hours later, the footprints revealed they were alone, with no sign of the child.
