An extinct subspecies of polar bear by the name of Ursus maritimus tyrannus, was identified by a single partial ulna discovered in the Thames gravels at London's Kew Bridge.
Björn Kurtén, a Finnish palaeontologist, gave it its name in nineteen sixty four.
The ulna is one of the two forearm long bones that, in conjunction with the radius, make up the antebrachium, and it is thought to depict a rather large subadult individual.
