Description
The scariest animal during the Eocene was this. Very few sea creatures from any era could rival the physical presence of Basilosaurus, whose serpentine body and formidable size made it one of the most imposing predators of its time.
Measuring between fifty five and sixty six feet in length, it was not only a giant among early whales, but also a dominant force in the prehistoric oceans of the late Eocene.
Its elongated body gave it an almost mythical appearance, often described as snake-like, setting it apart from modern cetaceans whose bodies are shorter and more compact.
