Description
On May 21, 1879, during the War of the Pacific, the Chilean corvette Esmeralda faced the Peruvian ironclad Huáscar off the port of Iquique. Outmatched in armor and firepower, Captain Arturo Prat and his crew chose to resist as Rear Admiral Miguel Grau carried out Peru’s mission with skill, discipline, and professionalism.
This documentary examines the Battle of Iquique from both Chilean and Peruvian perspectives. It follows the strategic importance of the blockade, the decisions made by Prat and Grau, the clash between Esmeralda and Huáscar, and the legacy that turned a relatively small naval battle into one of the defining moments of the War of the Pacific. Beyond later legend, Iquique remains a story of command pressure, national memory, sacrifice, and respect between enemies.
