Description
British sailors boarded the damaged World War II German submarine U-110 during the battle around Convoy OB 318 in the North Atlantic. Led by Sub-Lieutenant David Balme, the boarding party searched the abandoned U-boat and recovered an Enigma machine, codebooks, cipher keys, and other cryptographic material. Their discovery helped Allied codebreakers read German naval communications more effectively in 1941, but only because the capture was kept secret.
This documentary follows HMS Bulldog, U-110, and one of the most important intelligence prizes of World War II’s Battle of the Atlantic. What began as a convoy defense became a race against time inside a sinking enemy submarine, where documents and machines mattered as much as guns and depth charges.
