Description
John Capes survived one of the most extraordinary submarine disasters of World War II after HMS Perseus struck an Italian mine off Kefalonia in December 1941. Trapped beneath the Ionian Sea, Capes reportedly used a Davis Submerged Escape Apparatus to leave the wreck, reach the surface, and swim toward an occupied Greek island.
His survival became even more remarkable when Greek civilians hid and protected him until he could return to Allied lines. This documentary follows the sinking of HMS Perseus, the escape through dark water, the danger of occupied Kefalonia, and the later wreck evidence that helped support key parts of a story once considered almost impossible to believe.
