Description
Kohima became one of the most important battles of the Burma campaign when Japanese forces advanced from Burma into India in April 1944. This documentary follows the defenders of the hill town, the road toward Dimapur, and the shrinking perimeter around Garrison Hill and the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow, where the battle became a close fight for ground measured in yards.
As the siege tightened, the defenders faced isolation, shortages, exhaustion, and attacks that pushed the fighting into close quarters near the famous tennis court front line. Together with Imphal, Kohima helped halt Japan’s advance into India and marked a turning point in the Burma campaign.
