Description
In 23 September 1779, John Paul Jones fought one of the most dramatic naval battles of the American Revolutionary War when Bonhomme Richard clashed with HMS Serapis off Flamborough Head. His flagship was a converted merchant ship, damaged, burning, and flooding, while Serapis was a newer and stronger British frigate escorting a convoy. The battle became famous because Jones captured the enemy ship even though Bonhomme Richard sank after the fight.
This documentary follows the 1779 raid near Britain, Captain Richard Pearson’s duty to protect the convoy, and Jones’s decision to keep the ships locked together when a clean duel favored the British frigate. It is a story of naval pressure, command discipline, close-range chaos, and a victory made unforgettable by its cost.
