Just over 12 months ago, I left Pattaya and moved to Surin in Isaan, Thailand.
This week, a member of the family needed to get a motorcycle transported from Surin to Pattaya — around 480km each way, or roughly 600 miles for the round trip. They were going to hire a courier, but I offered to do it myself as long as the fuel was covered.
I thought it might be a long, boring journey… but it actually turned into a much more enjoyable trip than expected.
We spent a couple of nights back in Pattaya, drove through the neon streets, revisited a place I used to call home, and somehow Bud decided to start teaching me how to drive — despite the fact I’ve been driving for over 40 years. No idea why, but it was very funny at times.
On the way back to Surin, we stopped to buy fresh fruit including durian, rambutan, strawberries, passion fruit and longan — most of which are incredibly cheap and fresh here in Thailand.
And yes… throughout the whole video I’m sporting a very obvious black eye.
That story is funny enough to deserve its own video, so I’m keeping that mystery for next time.
A simple motorcycle delivery turned into a proper Thailand road trip — Surin to Pattaya and back again.
