I Finally Found a Motorcycle Android Auto Screen I’m Keeping... But There’s a Catch

Description

I’ve tested quite a few motorcycle Android Auto and Apple CarPlay screens now, and most of them don’t remain fitted for very long.

The CPMC X6 may be the first one that does.

But this review turned into a much bigger rabbit hole than I expected.

The 2K front and rear cameras were one of the main reasons I agreed to test the X6 and spent two days installing it on my Honda CB650F. Unfortunately, when I checked the recordings, the 2K footage was visibly choppy.

Adobe Premiere then began reporting frame errors, so I analysed the original recordings using FFmpeg. The video itself wasn’t corrupt, but the frame timing was irregular.

CPMC forwarded my evidence to the factory, who confirmed that the system cannot maintain a genuinely stable 30fps at 2K while simultaneously running navigation, Blind Spot Detection and video recording. Their recommended solution was to change the cameras to 1080p.

That wasn’t the answer I wanted—but it wasn’t the end of the story.

I changed the recording resolution to 1080p and went out for what was supposed to be a quick 30-minute test ride.

Five hours later, I’d ridden from Surin to Roi Et, gone up a tower, had a coffee and ridden home. 😂

During that test:

The X6 didn’t reboot or freeze.
Navigation worked perfectly.
The screen remained clear in direct sunlight.
The front and rear recordings were smooth and stable.
Blind Spot Detection became one of my favourite features.
And the entire system worked exactly as I’d hoped.

So, do I recommend the CPMC X6?

Yes—but I recommend it as a 1080p system.

If you’re buying it specifically because of the advertised 2K cameras, you need to understand the limitation I found. Apart from that, this is probably the best motorcycle Android Auto screen I’ve personally tested—and it may genuinely be the first one I leave permanently fitted.

Patreon gets the bits before common sense arrives with the scissors. 😂

I upload much more frequently there, with longer, more detailed and often completely uncut videos covering the projects, problems, rabbit holes, mistakes and general chaos behind the scenes.

There are also videos that never make it to YouTube at all—sometimes because they’re too long, sometimes because they’re too random... and sometimes because they’re just bloody funny.
