I Bought a Cheap Honda CB650F… But Something Wasn’t Right

I bought this 2014 Honda CB650F for 64,000 baht.

At that price, you might expect it to be an absolute wreck—but it really wasn’t.

The previous owner had looked after it reasonably well. It came with luggage, crash bars, touring equipment, and even a spare chain and sprockets. On paper, it looked like a genuine bargain.

And really, it was.

But something wasn’t right.

From cold, the engine would start, run for a few seconds, lose its idle and cut out. Start it again and it would often do exactly the same thing.

It also hesitated, backfired when cold and simply didn’t feel the way I thought a Honda CB650F should.

Once I noticed that, there was absolutely no chance I was going to leave it alone. 😂

The bike also had several smaller problems, including a very binary clutch and throttle, worn gear linkage, worn clutch-lever bushes, missing fairing bolts and even a hairline fracture in the front brake lever.

So naturally, I plugged a laptop into it.

Then I started investigating fault codes and Honda K-Line diagnostics.

Then I built my own diagnostic adapter.

Then I started thinking about building a completely different dashboard.

You know—the usual rabbit hole. 😂

I originally suspected the MAP sensor.

I was wrong.

This video introduces the CB650F, explains the problems I found and begins the diagnostic journey. The actual cause—and the surprisingly simple fix—will be covered in the follow-up video.

The plan is simple: find every fault, worn part and hidden bodge, fix everything properly, and get the bike running and riding exactly the way Honda intended.

Bud loves it.

I love it.

Now I just have to make it perfect.

Thanks for watching!
