Synopsis
A young married couple, Andrew and Ellen Courtney, rent an old house on the New England coast despite warnings from local residents that the property is haunted. Inside the house hangs a portrait of a long-dead sea captain named Michael Clawson, a cruel and jealous man whose spirit still seems tied to the home.
As time passes, Andrew begins to undergo disturbing personality changes. He becomes increasingly suspicious, domineering, and irrationally jealous of his wife. Ellen soon realizes that her husband appears to be falling under the influence of the dead captain whose portrait hangs in the house. The haunting grows stronger as the captain's malevolent spirit attempts to take possession of Andrew's mind, threatening to destroy their marriage and possibly their lives.
